Surf Dictionary | Shortboard

By comparison with longboards, shortboards are a relatively new and a considerably smaller type of surfboard.

With a length ranging between 5'and 7' (roughly 1.5m and 2m), shortboards are a more complicated learning vehicle and are, therefore, recommended only for intermediate or advanced surfers. Shortboards are primarily designed for high-performance surfing and exceed by allowing the surfer to explore the most critical parts of the wave.

Among its main advantages are the great maneuverability, speed and versatility in face of different conditions due to its aerodynamic shape and the fact that they have between two and four fins. On the other hand, you should keep in mind that the rowing will be much harder and that a session with a shortboard is always more exhausting.
